Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT)

Surface-breaking defect detection in all non-porous materials — stainless steel, aluminium, and alloys.

What is PT?

Liquid Penetrant Testing

PT detects surface-breaking discontinuities in all non-porous materials — metals, plastics and ceramics. A liquid penetrant is applied to the surface, drawn into surface defects by capillary action, and revealed with a developer.

PT is ideal for non-ferromagnetic materials like stainless steel, aluminium and copper alloys where MPI cannot be used.

How It Works

Inspection Process

01

Clean Surface

Thoroughly clean and dry the inspection surface to remove all contaminants.

02

Apply Penetrant

Apply liquid penetrant and allow dwell time (10–30 minutes) for capillary action.

03

Remove Excess

Remove excess penetrant using the appropriate remover technique.

04

Apply Developer

Apply developer to draw trapped penetrant out of defects.

05

Inspect & Report

Inspect under white light or UV and document all indications.
