Ultrasonic Thickness Gauging (UTTG)

Rapid, accurate wall thickness measurement for corrosion monitoring and fitness-for-service assessment.

What is UTTG?

Ultrasonic Thickness Gauging

UTTG uses ultrasonic pulse-echo technique to measure remaining wall thickness of pipes, vessels, tanks and structures from one side only — ideal for in-service inspection without process disruption.

Digital thickness gauges capable of measuring through coatings provide ±0.1mm accuracy. Results feed directly into corrosion rate calculations and remaining life assessments.

How It Works

Inspection Process

01

Surface Access

Access inspection point — can be through coating in most cases.

02

Calibration

Calibrate gauge to known material velocity and reference thickness.

03

Measurement

Apply couplant, contact probe and record digital thickness reading.

04

Grid Survey

Conduct systematic grid or CML (Condition Monitoring Location) survey.

05

Report

Issue thickness survey report with minimum readings, corrosion rates and recommendations.
